Santi Silvas Open

The Santi Silvas Open is the main activity of the Tommy Robredo Foundation. The tournament (ITF2) includes the world’s top male and female wheelchair tennis players. In June 2009 there was the first edition of the Memorial which, with free entry, now forms an important part of international tournament’s calendars.

Tommy Robredo directs the Santi Silvas Open following the dream of his good friend who died in 2008. A car accident left Santi in a wheelchair. From that moment he found this sport, which he had played since he was young with Tommy, and was a stimulant to keep going (he concentrated his efforts in wheelchair tennis and in the organization of initiatives to create this sport). After his death, Tommy, together with his work team, worked on creating the Santi Silvas Open through contacts, reports and notes which he had started with Santi to plan such a tournament.

Hello everyone! Soon it will be a year since the first edition of the Santi Silvas Memorial. From the start of 2010, the Tommy Robredo Foundation has already started working on the second edition of a tournament that, with Santi’s family, we feel extremely proud to go ahead with.

With this memorial, Tommy has decided to continue the project which Santi started. With this gesture of appreciation, organizing a wheelchair tennis tournament of such magnitude has meant a great deal of hard work, which is also extremely rewarding as it means making so many people happy. Above all the players who participate in the Memorial who feel comforted that the sport is staying alive, which motivates them and lets them see life in a different way, being conscious that they form a part of society and that so many people root for them. This is all possible thanks to the Tommy Robredo Foundation, it’s collaborators, institutions, companies, entities and people who, individually or collectively, give support to this project.

As Santi’s family, we were always  at his side helping him to keep going in tournaments, we know that the organization and management can be very complex and needs a great deal of effort and hard work. That is why we ask for everyone’s support for the Tommy Robredo Foundation, which is organizing the second edition of the Santi Silvas Memorial this year, which we urge you attend if you weren’t able to be there last year or to repeat the experience of last June, where you will see the world’s top wheelchair tennis players.

Lastly, we would like to give thanks to Tommy, Magalí and all the people who form the magnificent team that organises the Santi Silvas Memorial. They have all made a dream come true, Santi’s dream and all those who participate in this competition. To all these people we would like to say that we will never forget this incredible gesture. As Santi’s family (parents and brother) we appreciate it with all our hearts. Thank you everyone!
